New York state has been increasingly siting wind farms across the state and most recently has approved sites closer to the New York City area, as part of its expanding renewable energy strategy. Wind turbine blades are often decommissioned before the end of usefule life due to material and other technological advance to increase efficieny. Decommisioned blades need to go somewhere; either they are recovered and reused in other applications, or they are landfilled.
This project has the capability of: Assessing the future of recovery and direct reuse of decommisioned turbine blades in New York to keep them out of landfills
Develop a plan to support future reuse of decommisioned wind turbine blades
Design a geographical model to minimize GHG emissions for the reuse plan.

The map provides the locations of land-based and offshore wind turbines in New York State, which has the option to control displaying active windmill projects or underdevelopment windmill projects.

What's The Possibility ?

Our project is a proactive approach to finding more sustainable end-of-life alternatives compared to landfill and incineration. we aim to develop a plan to support future reuse of decommissioned wind turbine blades in New York and design a geographical model to minimize additional GHG emissions from transportation.
To help stakeholders make informed decisions on where to send decommissioned blades, we establish GHG boundaries around wind farms, identify reuse locations within the boundaries, and build a model to estimate GHG emissions from transporting the blades.

Understanding Repurposing

The word repurposing means adapt for use in a different purpose. Thus our major goal is to show the world that innovation and creativity when backed up with logical thinking and machine learning, it can blow away minds and human limitations.

Why we need "Repurposing" ?

"As nobody is actually doing it! "According to various news media, various companies are 'searching' for ways to deal with the tens of thousands of blades that have reached the end of their lives. Thus this research based data science embedded proiject by our team can be a useful resource for development of proper resources to build effective measures to handle the wind turbine blades.
